We all know that getting divorced is one of the most stressful journeys we can experience in life. Unfortunately, it is also a time when we need to be prepared, organized and resourceful. Not an easy task if you are feeling anxious, stressed and emotional.
Why is a Professional Organizer blogging about this you ask? Well, first, I have been there and experienced the situation and well truthfully I wasn't prepared for it. All levels of my being were thrown for a loop, I struggled as I navigated the process of divorce not just with the process but with my stuff and my life. It was a long time ago but I still remember the emotional feelings of loss and confusion. If I could go back in time and advise my 28-year-old-self I would say develop a plan and be prepared for moving forward while still dealing with the past.
I made some bad mistakes during that time and if I had been wiser and better prepared it would have made a huge difference in my life.
I'm working right now with a client who is going through a divorce and we are laying out a plan and having it all organized and ready so as things proceed they are protected and we have all the ducks in a row. We talk through all the steps, we have systems in place for all the necessary paperwork and journaling. We have also started sorting through all the stuff....an accumulation of 20 years. Not easy to sort through when you take an emotional journey when finding certain items.
Don't under estimate how the right professional organizer can help you as many take a holistic approach and act as a life coach for the stuff and can be an important part of your support team.
